Filteration and the Aquarium Enviroment.

Sponge filters are used in the Gourami breeding tank to exchange the water in an efficient but gentle flow. All you need is a length of air-tubing, one tubing clamp to adjust the outlet flow, one air-pump. The sponge filter cost approx £3.50, situate it in a corner of the tank with the output nozzle's bottom lip just below the water level.

The Aquatic Enviroment.
Never underestimate the manufacturers warnings on aerosol spray products. If they state that their products can be detrimental to Aquatic life then heed that warning.
The following happened to me.
Whilst on a short holiday my lady friend decided to put a shine on my wooden aquarium cabinet using her own floral spray furniture polish. She informed me by text the next day that all my fish had mysteriously died, and asked me what I thought the cause was?
Don't use
Air Fresheners, whether they be sprays or the Scented plug-in types. (Unfriendly in the aquatic zone)
Never decorate using either
Gloss or Base paints, paint rollers produce tiny droplets in the air which can enter the aquarium. (Remove the tank into another room whilst renovating)
Carpet Fresheners, don't use unless you cover the aquarium, and switch off the air pump whilst hoovering.
Aerosol hair lacquers, and body spray deodorants shouldn't be used near the aquarium, take note ladies.
Finally if your hands come into contact with fish foods make sure they're free from soap, perfume, aftershave etc.
The above may sound trivial diarrhoea, don't put your valuable fish at risk. The makers put warnings on their products because they don't want you to claim their pretty little ass.
